Welcome to Freedom with Motion

I am delighted to announce that I will be offering a new class. Freedom with Motion is a mix of diverse moves that includes contemporary Pilates exercise, which works with the body-wide fascial and muscular system.

The aim of the class is to incorporate movement that are found in Pilates that offer strength and mobility to the muscular system with a new innovative technique  that aims to influence lines of  fascial system helping to improve how you move, stand, feel and think.

As a long-term devotee and teacher (since 2002) I have very much enjoyed the rewards of teaching a wide range of age groups, abilities and needs. I feel that Pilates a great movement baseline for all. But, whilst many of my clients attain their individual goals others have struggled to develop to their full potential . I have come to appreciate that it as with all exercise programs-it has its limits but believed that I could offer more to my clients.

Over the last few years, I have done a great deal of research and developed my skill base, so I can offer my clients a more comprehensive training method. During the course of this research I become interested in the myofascial system and how the efficiency and harmony of this system is very significant for maintaining healthy movement and alignment and co-ordination.

The fascial system is one of the largest and most complex systems in the body, only recently attracting attention of scientists and clinicians.“ Composed of fibrous connective tissue and a gel-like matrix, fascia forms a continuous web throughout the body. It surrounds and supports organs, muscles and bones, and organizes into 12 myofascial lines, or ‘slings,’ that transmit and distribute force efficiently across the body. .  Each Sling transmits force with other slings and other connected tissue. When well organised they provide optimal force, alignment, stability and movement efficiency. In contrast, disorganised fascia where the transmission of force is compromised may potentially create misalignment, tension, adhesions, loss of stability and functional movement.

This new innovative movement practice will enable clients not only to strengthen muscles and increase mobility similar to Pilates but importantly will help to rectify the body-wide fascial communication system improving postural alignment, stability, agility, resilience, tissue health and co-ordination. It will help to promote a greater sense of well-being and movement ease, alleviating pain,  tension and helping to reduce the occurrence of injury. For me it is the missing piece of the jigsaw.  All the more reason to find a mat and book today.
